Jason’s Dorian Yates’ Style Chest Workout
I posted my ‘Dorian Yates Style Back Workout‘ yesterday and I used the same training philosophy for chest and triceps this morning. I’m going to focus on the chest part for this post. As I stated in yesterday’s post I’ll more than likely be on the Dorian Yates high intensity program for several weeks. I’m enjoying the different feel doing these types of workouts.
As you probably know the Dorian Yates program (and this is from his Blood and Guts DVD) is based on 2 working sets, yet going all-out on those 2 sets. It may not seem like enough, and especially this morning where I only performed 4 exercises for chest. But if your intensity is high and you’re training to absolute muscle failure, it’s going to be effective and you will walk away with extreme pumps.
Incline Barbell Press: 2 sets x 12-15 reps
Hammer Strength Incline Press: 2 sets x 12-15 reps
Hammer Strength Chest Press: 2 sets x 12-15 reps
Cable Flyes: 2 sets x 15-20 reps
You’ll notice I did more Hammer Strength today than usual. My lower back is a little sore from my back workout (I believe I may have tweaked it on the T-Bar rows yesterday). So I felt better doing more machines with the exception of starting out on incline barbell press. And although I’m an advocate of free weights, I almost prefer Hammer Strength machines for extreme intensity when working chest because you don’t have to worry about a spotter so much.
You’ll also notice the reps are somewhat high, between 12 and 15. This is mainly due to a few drop sets and rest-pause sets, especially on the final set. My goal was to make each total working set as intense as possible, and to completely exhaust the muscle. That was indeed achieved for this morning’s Dorian Yates chest workout!
