When someone asks what your favorite day of the week is, our typical answer is Friday or Saturday, or perhaps Sunday. But our answer should not be either of those. It should be Leg Day! I’m sharing this morning’s 2 Working Sets Leg Workout with you, which will have me limping for the next few days.
I’ve recently starting this Dorian Yates workout kick. The basis of this training style is performing only 2 working sets. It’s the most intense workout you’ll ever do. It doesn’t sound like much. In fact, at a glance, it doesn’t look like enough. But trust me, when you increase your workout intensity like this, you won’t be able to do more than 2 working sets. It’s all-out and then some.
Leg Extensions: 3 x 20
Leg Press: 3 x 20
Leg Press: 2 x 15, 12
Plate-Loaded Squats: 2 x 11, 9*
Leg Extensions: 2 x 13, 11*
Leg Press (close foot position): 3 x 15
Seated Leg Curls: 2 x 15, 13*
Hammer Strength Leg Curls: 2 x 15, 12
* Drop set performed on final set
Intensity is the key here. This means when you feel like you can’t do anymore reps, do more. You have to push beyond that mental barrier when you’re only doing 2 working sets. And you will surprise yourself on how much further you can push. It’s crazy.
You’ll notice there’s one exercise I did ‘normal sets’ with. I went back to the leg press machine to do a few sets with a close foot position. This hits that outer sweep. My quads were literally done at this point so I just pumped out a few sets of 15 reps. I still applied the same workout intensity on the final set but I didn’t quite go to failure on those first two sets.
This style of training, 2 working sets with high workout intensity, is quite brutal. But I’m loving it so far. I’m not sure how long I will do this before backing off. I’m guessing at least 6 weeks. I’m sure my body will tell me when it’s had enough. I am considering training 4 days a week instead of 5.
