As you know, things shift a little at this age. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. We just need to know what our body needs at this point in life. I’m in my early 40’s, so this hits home.
One of the changes we have to be aware of is the types of supplements for men over 40 may be different fro the supplements we took when we were younger. There are certain deficiencies we need to compensate for as we age.
I’m going to cover 4 supplements for I take for longevity and improve my quality of like.
I didn’t start going to the doctor on a regular basis for health checks until I was 40. I know, that wasn’t wise. Though I was healthy for the most part, my levels of Vitamin D were low. I was advised to start supplementing with Vitamin D.
Vitamin D will help boost strength (I assume that if you’re on my site, you do some sort of strength training; if you don’t start now!). More importantly, Vitamin D can reduce the risk of heart disease as well as other diseases.

Magnesium helps regulate our metabolism. This is critical for men over 40 as our metabolism naturally slows down. It also helps us get more restful sleep and can regulate blood pressure.
Supplementing with magnesium can also help prevent a number problems we’re susceptible to at this age and older such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes. Magnesium is indeed a must have supplement for men over 40.
Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)
If I was told that I could only take one supplement for the rest of my life, it would be branched chain amino acids, or better know as BCAAs. BCAAs, specifically the amino acid leucine, increases protein synthesis. This helps you build lean muscle and prevents muscle wasting. This is imperative for us men climbing up there in age.
Typically you’d take BCAAs pre, intra, and post workout (which is what I do). You can also supplement with BCAAs throughout the day with your meals to reduce belly fat. That’s something many men over 40 struggle with.

Natural Test Booster
Lastly, it’s not a bad idea to take a quality testosterone booster. The benefits of increasing testosterone in men over 40 goes without saying.
