It seems one of the most popular supplement types in the bodybuilding and strength training world is pre workout supplements. And here’s a review of another popular pre workout called C4 Extreme from Cellucor.
Prior to trying C4 I had been hearing several gym buddies talk about the effects of this pre workout supplement and suggesting that I try it soon. I was finishing up my canister of Hemo Rage by Nutrex (which I was alternating with Animal Rage from Universal) and it was time for me to buy a pre workout supplements, so I decided to give C4 a try.
Cellucor C4 Extreme seems to be in the category of the concentrated blends of pre workouts (about 5.2 grams per serving). I must say many fellow weightlifters and enthusiasts I came across that were taking or had tried C4 raved about it. I don’t recall hearing any negative reviews on it. So here’s my own experience with C4 Extreme.
C4 Extreme Pre Workout
C4 Extreme is a potent pre workout formula that’s geared towards bodybuilders and weight trainers looking for the pump and focus without the fillers. One scoop is 5.7 grams with the highlighted ingredients being beta alanine, creatine nitrate, arginine AKG and an explosive energy blend (vitamin C, tyrosine, caffeine anhydrous, niacin, folate, vitamin B12 and a few more ingredients; you can Google the label).
My Use/Dosage of C4 Extreme
As with most pre workout supplements I try for the first time, I usually start out with one scoop (one serving). I have a high tolerance for stimulants but I always like to get an idea of how one serving works for.
I usually bump it up to at least two servings the following workout, which in this case I did. After taking two scoops for about a week I bumped it up to almost three scoops. I only took C4 on my workout days which was five to six days a week.
My C4 Extreme Review
One serving of C4 didn’t really do much for me. I state this in most of my pre workout supplement reviews; it’s worth nothing that I train in the early mornings, waking up at about 4:30AM. I generally have a scoop of whey protein and then I take my pre workout supplement right before heading to the gym.
When I was taking two servings I did notice the expected sustainable energy throughout my workout. However, I never got that explosive feeling or extreme pump feeling that everyone was telling me about.
I eventually bumped up the dose a little searching for that extreme surge of energy but never got it. However, the sustainable energy throughout my workout was there as well as the mental focus. And those are, or should be more important that the stimulant surge.
C4 Extreme Pros:
The label lists the specific amounts of each ingredient except for the Explosive Energy Blend. There’s no fillers in this product and the ingredients are known to enhance workout performance and mental focus. C4 isn’t loaded with stimulants as it’s main source.
C4 Extreme Cons:
You may need more than one serving (in my case, I needed almost three servings).
Cellucor C4 Extreme is definitely a solid pre workout supplement. The label is straight forward. In my opinion, C4 is great for those looking for a product that isn’t solely based on caffeine or stimulants.
Although C4, like any pre workout supplement that works, does include stimulants, there’s also plenty of ingredients like creatine nitrate, beta alanine, and arginine AKG. As far as the advertised explosive energy, you may or may not experience that with C4 Extreme. I didn’t, but as I stated earlier, it worked well for most everyone I knew who tried it.
This once again proves that some supplements work great for some, and not so great for others. I had similar results with Driven Sports Craze. C4 Extreme is definitely worth a try though.
