USPlabs is a supplement company with a very unique product line, one of those products being SuperCissus. The ingredients in some of their products are some I had never heard of before so I did some further research. Likewise, this was the first time I had heard of cissus quadrangularis being used in sports and bodybuilding for joint pain relief. I was a little skeptical, as most of us are when trying new supplements. So I did a little reading on the benefits of cissus and decided to give it a try.
Sore joints are something that we all deal with from time to time. If you haven’t then you either haven’t been lifting weights long enough, or you don’t ever train with heavy weights. Joint pain is inevitable in our world of weight training.
USPlabs SuperCissus contains 1600 mg of cissus quadrangularis extract per serving (two capsules). SuperCissus claims to support healthy bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons. It’s also said to deliver nutrients to the tendons. The latest version of this supplements contains 10% of the extract whereas the old formula only contains 5%.
I took the recommended dosage of Super Cissus as per the label, which was two capsules twice a day with meals. I took a serving with my morning post workout shake and another with dinner. What’s great about the new formula (I believe this came out in 2012, maybe a little earlier) is that the bottle contains a five week supply.
There are three occasions I want to talk about regarding my experience with USPlabs Super Cissus. The first was sometime in either 2009 or 2010. I had been experience joint pain in my right shoulder for a few weeks and it just wouldn’t go away. The gym was getting rid of some supplements that were closed to the expiration date and the older version of SuperCissus (I believe it was called SuperCissus Rx?) was available at an extremely discounted price. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it out. Within a couple of weeks the pain in my shoulder subsided.
Another time was in late 2012 when I hurt my lower back. I’ve had lower back pain off and on for many years but I moved the wrong way and the pain was so severe that I ended up making a few chiropractor visits. The lower back pain had moved to my sciatic nerve. I figured I would try Super Cissus again since it had worked so well in the past. However, I wasn’t sure how it would help my back and sciatic nerve pain. Long story short, after a couple of weeks of taking SuperCissus I felt much better and most of the pain was gone. Thirdly, I had recommended SuperCissus to a couple of coworkers who had some joint pains and it worked for them as well.
Pros: Joint pain subsided within a couple of weeks of taking Super Cissus. The product is also relatively inexpensive (five week supply). You may not have to continue taking it once your joints are no longer sore.
My final thoughts on USPlabs SuperCissus is that it’s a product that lives up to its claims in regards to relieving joint pain. Another point I didn’t make in the section about my experience with SuperCissus is that I didn’t continue taking it once I finished the bottle. The joint pain was alleviated every time. I would recommend cycling this product off and on though, even if you don’t have sore joints. Even though you may not feel any pain, our joints and tendons take a beating lifting weights consistently, especially if you train heavy.
