Old School Muscle Building Supplement Stack
I’m turning back the clock to the late 80’s and early 90’s which is the era I started weight training. Back then we didn’t have the vast array of supplements for bodybuilding and strength training. And I must admit the protein powders back then were less than desirable. I’m sure some of you remember those protein powders that didn’t mix well and tasted like chalk! However, there was one supplement introduced that changed the entire industry of supplements, bodybuilding, and strength training forever. That supplement is creatine monohydrate, and that’s what I’m covering in what I call my ‘Old School Muscle Building Supplement Stack.’
I’m covering the essentials while throwing in creatine monohydrate in this supplement plan. This is a basic, inexpensive yet very effective supplement stack and somewhat mirrors my Basic Supplement Stack.
1) Whey Protein
2) Multi Vitamin
3) Fish Oil
4) Creatine Monohydrate
I’ve heard a few supplement companies knock creatine monohydrate. And many supplement companies have produced other versions of creatine that’s said to be more efficient. But I don’t know if there’s any more science and research on these other types of creatines as there is on creatine monohydrate. My philosophy is creatine monohydrate worked extremely well for a lot of people back then; it’s not going to all of a sudden stop working, right? If it worked then, it still works now.
There are a small number of people that have claimed to not respond to creatine monohydrate. There are plenty of other supplements on the market geared towards building muscle if you’re one of those people. I’ve personally never known anyone that didn’t respond to this supplements.
I’ve experimented several methods of taking creatine monohydrate but these days I take it after my workout with my post workout shake (I train early mornings). I also sometimes take it later that day with my dinner. And I usually take about 7-10 grams each time. Some folks like to load creatine monohydrate for 5 days as instructed but I personally have never seen the benefit of that. Although it could work well for you.
I also threw in a very basic multi vitamin for the purpose of this Old School Muscle Building Stack to keep it simple. I do realize that Universal’s Animal Pak was around and very popular back but for the supplement stack video below, I chose to use Optimum Nutrition’s Opti-Men.
