We’re less than a week away from the 2013 Mr. Olympia event where Vegas will be filled with the biggest bodybuilders on the planet. I’d say this is going to be one of the most interesting Olympia contests for professional bodybuilding. There are some fierce competitors and unlike many of the past Mr. Olympia competitions, there’s no guaranteed winner this year. I remember the years when you pretty much knew Lee Haney was going to win again, and you knew Dorian Yates was going to hold the title, and you knew big Ronnie Coleman would not be defeated. All of those guys had many consecutive wins, year after year and for a while, no one could touch them.
This year is going to be different because you’ve got Phil Heath fighting to hold his current Mr. Olympia title for the third consecutive year. You also have Kai Greene which many thought he should have brought home the Sandow in 2012, and he’s been neck to neck with the top competitors for a while. We also have Jay Cutler coming back to reclaim what could be his final Olympia title. In my opinion it’s a toss up between those three competitors. We’ll see who wants it the most and who trained harder this past year.
I don’t want to leave out some of the other top Mr. Olympia competitors. Professional bodybuilding is one of those sports where anything can happen on game day. All we see is pictures in magazines and what we read online. But I’m sure it’s a completely different image when those guys get on stage the day of the competition. I anticipate Dennis Wolf doing well. He’s got a massive frame and it’s been said he could certainly be the next Mr. Olympia if he nails his condition with some more mass and thickness. I personally would like to see both Branch Warren and Johnnie Jackson do well. Branch is known as one of the hardest working bodybuilders. Johnnie Jackson just has a powerful looking physique. And you also have Dexter Jackson who’s probably at the brink of retirement. But Dexter has more muscle maturity and no one is as conditioned as him. If we’re talking pure aesthetics, it would have to go to Dexter.
Be sure to check out the recent article I wrote on my 2013 Mr. Olympia Predictions. I go in more detail here about the competitors whom I feel will be the top five this year.
