Stress Reliever Leg Workout

Leg ExtensionsDon’t let the name of this leg workout fool you into thinking it’s a soft, pansy workout. Believe me, it’s anything but that. My leg day partner (Big Mike) and I have both been going through some stress in our personal lives. Both of us have good things coming to us, but none the less, major changes, even when good, can be stressful. And it was Big Mike’s turn to create this week’s leg workout. It seems he decided to take out his stress on both of us with some extreme leg training that included a lot of supersets and ridiculous high rep sets! So here’s the leg workout…

Leg Workout

Leg Press: 4 sets x 20 reps – superset with –

– Walking Dumbbell Lunges: 4 sets x 8-10 reps (each leg)

Squat Machine: 4 sets x 12-15 reps – superset with –

– Lying Leg Curls: 4 sets x 20 reps

Leg Extensions: 4 sets x 130 reps * (details below)

Seated Leg Curls: 4 sets x 20 reps

Outer Abductor Leg Machine: 4 sets x 15-20 reps

One thing I want to point out is that our rest periods between sets were minimal. We pretty much went back and forth, as soon as of of us finished the other one was on that machine. The supersets were brutal. Obviously we stuck with lighter weights as not only were we doing supersets, but we were also in the higher rep ranges.

* This is a ‘special’ way Big Mike came up with for doing our leg extensions this morning. There are two phases to this. Phase I: We basically did one set of 30 reps followed by 20-30 seconds of rest. Phase II: After that, we start hitting partial reps for 100 reps total. If we didn’t hit the 100 reps, we’d rest for 10 seconds and go again, and continued that until we hit 100 total reps for the second phase. It goes without mentioning that this was extremely painful but it created an incredible blood bursting pump.

We finished out with some more leg curls and hit the abductor machine. I didn’t mention this in the workout listed above but we also hit a couple of exercises for calves, four sets each. This leg workout went by fast as again, we didn’t rest much between sets. I’m pretty certain we’ll have trouble walking today!
