Prime Male Strength Training – Week 1

I started taking Prime Male again this week. It’s a natural test booster designed for men over 30 (this is that critical age where our testosterone starts to drop year after year). I’m in my early 40s so it’s perfect for me.

Heavy Weights with Prime Male

Having taken Prime Male before, I know it produces results. However, this time I’m training heavier. Whereas my ultimate gym goal is to build lean muscle, I have a sub-goal to get stronger over the next few months.

As you know from my last few blog posts, I’ve been starting my workouts with compound exercises using heavy weights. I do a few warm ups and work my way up (the pyramid technique; gradually moving up each set helps prevent injury).

I typically like to get around 5-6 reps on my final two sets of that first exercise, but I’ve gone as low as 1 rep. For example, I used the 5-3-1-1- routine with bench press this week. This gets your body used to moving those heavy weights.

Strength Training with Bodybuilding

In starting out with heavy weights, I then proceed into a bodybuilding training style. This means more reps and focusing on the muscle throughout each rep.

Here’s an example of this morning’s shoulder workout using this technique (I call this technique Powerbuilding):

Shoulders & Traps Workout:

Hammer Strength Shoulder Press

5 x 12, 10, 8, 6, 3, 20

Barbell Shrugs

4 x 10, 8, 6, 6

Lateral Raises

3 x 8 -drop set on final set

Reverse Pec Dec

3 x 10 -drop set on final set

Seated Dumbbell Press

3 x 15

Sometimes I’ll end my heavy sets with an extremely high rep set, like 20 reps. In the old days, we called these burn out sets. This is a good way to get the blood pumping throughout the muscle.

Prime Male Cycle for Strength

I plan to stay on Prime Male for 8 weeks, and I may extend that. Prime Male doesn’t necessarily need to be cycled. It’s nothing like pro hormones in the sense that there are no harmful side effects.

In fact, one of the many reasons I chose Prime Male for my strength training phase is because it’s also rich in nutrients needed for muscle growth and recovery.

I’ll keep you updated on my progress each week. And I’ll more than likely blog towards the end of the week throughout my Prime Male cycle. I’ve got some strength goals set, and one of them is benching 405 again.

Train with Passion,
