Performance and Recovery Supplement Stack – Jan 2017 Supplements

I’m starting out the 2017 New Year with a new Performance and Recovery Supplement Stack. This covers pre workout and post workout for my 2017 supplements.

Of course the types of supplements remain the same, but I’m trying a new protein and going back to a pre workout that I haven’t taken in a while.

Jan 2017 Supplements

  • BSN Syntha-6 Protein
  • Scivation Xtend BCAAs
  • Universal Animal Pak
  • MusclePharm Assault Pre Workout

* Update: The Syntha 6 is something I only tried once – I am now back on my Dymatize Elite Whey Protein. This has been, and will be my core protein for my 2017 supplements. 

I rarely go to Vitamin Shoppe, but it was late and I was out of pre workout, and we happened to be passing by one. I picked up some MusclePharm Assault pre workout and noticed a tub of BSN Syntha 6 protein on the discounted rack. The price was right (I guess their banana flavor is being phased out), so I decided to pick it up.

Pre and Post Workout

The Assault is a solid pre workout supplement, at least for me. The effects from the pre workout I was taking prior to Assault had worn off. I think this happens with most performance enhancing and energy boosting supplements.

I preach this all the time, so I’ll say it again. Your ability to build muscle is mostly based on recovery. That’s why I’m big on protein and amino acids. Supplements like Syntha 6 (or any protein powder) allow you to get fast-digesting protein immediately post workout. And branched chain amino acid (BCAA) supplements like Xtend allow you to increase protein synthesis during your workouts. This keeps you in an anabolic state and ensures proper recovery.

My Supplement Stacks – 2017

I keep my supplement stacks simple. It’s all based around performance and recovery, more so recovery.

For my 2017 supplements, I plan to continue to stick to the basic supplements. A pre workout is always in the mix because I train in the early mornings. I need that kick. Plus I like the effects on mental focus and the pumps.

The recovery side will remain as protein, amino acids, and vitamins. I’ll throw in a test booster or fat burner from time to time as well (check out my Test Booster Fat Burner Stack).
