This is one of my homemade chili recipes, which I consider to be a power meal. To be successful at strength training or bodybuilding, you have to give your body the proper nutrients to recover and grow. You have to feed it. My Homemade Chili Power Meal gives you a hefty dose of protein and carbohydrates without a ton of fat. You can make this into a high calorie meal or low calorie meal, depending on how much you need to eat. But I’m catering this crock pot chili power meal to those looking to increase strength and/or gain muscle mass.

Cookware Needed for the Homemade Chili Power Meal

Crock pot (slow cooker)

Rice cooker

Frying pan

Jason's Homemade Chili Power Meal

Homemade Chili Power Meal Ingredients

1.5-2 lbs of lean ground beef (93/7; 7% fat)

2 cans of chili beans

1 can of diced tomatoes

Garlic powder

Onion powder

1-2 packages of chili seasoning


Cooking Instructions

Cook lean ground beef in pan with medium heat until browned (don’t overcook) then strain meat to get remove grease

Place cooked lean ground beef in crock pot (optional: place slow cooker liner in crock pot first)

Add 1 package of chili seasoning, teaspoon of garlic powder, and teaspoon of onion powder

Add 2 cans of beans and 1 can of diced tomatoes

Add optional 2nd package of chili seasoning

Set slow cooker on low, cover, and cook for approximately six hours

Stir ingredients in slow cooker about every hour

About an hour before crock pot chili is done, cook rice in rice cooker (make 3-4 servings)

My Homemade Chili Power Meal is relatively easy to make. The preparation time, including cooking the lean ground beef, is about eight minutes. You don’t necessary have to stir the ingredients in the crock pot every hour, on the hour, but it does help the flavor. Also, I love the slow cooker liners; this saves a lot of clean up time.

What I like most about crock pot meals in general is you can make enough food to last for several meals. This is a bodybuilder-friendly way to cook for those of us who don’t always have a ton of time to cook. You can cook a huge slow cooker meal and throw several servings in containers.
